If there's one subtle goal I had with this comic, it was referencing a bunch of dumb crap that people exactly my age remember. Not for nostalgia points, but just because what if that stuff showed up, right? And this was a thematically appropriate place for the infamous statue of the silver monkey.
Really, if you think about it, with all the puzzles and problem solving, Legends of the Hidden Temple was MORE of a "go into a videogame" Nickelodeon game show than Nick Arcade was. That thing just had you playing a crummy video board game and running around on a greenscreen.
My mom handles frustrating problems like Mizu does here, but in real life it doesn't usually work that way. That's what makes it such a good joke.
