Since the most common arrangement is side by side panels, a whole-width panel always does feel like a montage to me.
Magic messes with a lot of things plotwise and this is a fine example of that. Anyway it was nice of #3 to help out with teaching. I guess it's more fun to be in an 8-person race than just 4. There are just too many references here. They are thick and dense like a megapede.
