Stupid words not being what I think they are. Maelstrom really sounds like it's wind-related. Surely the -strom part is the same root as 'storm.' Anyway that whirlpool looks awful, but that harpoon-bow is awesome. Ethel is badass. Unfortunately I didn't learn how pirate hats work until very recently. Has anyone else ever drawn color-changing krakens before? They really should.
