I must have been playing Monster Hunter Tri at the time and figured I should just once cover the idea of enemy drops and item-grabs that are inside dumb little glowy spots. Lots of games do it, really, MH is just the one where it feels the oddest and gibs would have been more fitting.
In any case, one thing that I think is satisfying AND realistic is that even when an enemy doesn't drop money, it tends to drop something you can sell. Remember that in real life, kids. And if you ever get magic powers, don't use them to manipulate your friends.
